Clayton families, staff, and friends came together recently for the annual Celebration of Culture -- a reflection of the diversity, unity, and creativity that defines our community. The evening was filled with joy and discovery as families enjoyed a delicious catered dinner alongside a selection of international appetizers and desserts made by our staff and families. The hospitality of traditional Mexican drinks—ponche and champurrado—provided a festive touch.
But the Celebration of Culture wasn’t just about food – children and their parents enjoyed hands-on activities, from crafting and cooking to playing games and learning new traditions. Families made tortillas, mixed ingredients for at-home cookie kits, and even got creative with face painting and puppet-making. In one area, a traditional Sudanese tea and dessert room offered a taste of something new. At the same time, parents learned the invaluable skill of dialogic reading—a fun and impactful way to engage with their children through stories. Families also had the opportunity to explore solar energy, engage in a lively game of lotería, and immerse themselves in cultural activities that spanned continents and generations.
This event was a beautiful reminder of the power of community—how we learn from one another, share our stories, and celebrate what makes us different while finding the common threads that bind us all together. At Clayton, we are not just teaching children the ABCs of early childhood; we’re teaching them to appreciate, respect, and celebrate the richness of the world around them.
